This varnish is particularly recommended for preparation works on wood and marine plywood, both on interior and exterior of boats. For its outstanding sealing power provides excellent waterproofing characteristics and resistance to humidity conditions. Recommended as a basecoat it can be overcoated by two-component clear varnishes or polyurethane enamels but also with further coats of topcoat varnish or with synthetic undercoats. For best adhesion sandpapering between coats is recommended.
SURFACE PREPARATION AND APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Bare wood. The substrate should be clean and dry. After the substrte has been adequately prepared apply one coat of UNDERGLASS thinned 30-40% with Thinner 203. Sandpaper with fine abrasive paper and overcoat with two coats of UNDERGLASS.
Previosly coated wood. It is recommended to remove the old varnish by using a suitable paint remover, scraping or sanding so that UNDERGLASS could be applied and work as a waterproof primer coat. Therefore after the above preparation process had been carried out degrease the substrate with Thinner 203 and start build up the coating system as recommended for bare wood.
Finishing coats. Underglass can be usually overcoated either with 2-component varnishes or 2-component enamels but it can also be overcoated with one-component topcoats. It is recommended to sandpaper well the last coat of UNDERGLASS in order to provide a suitable anchor pattern for the following coats. Recommended clear varnish topcoats: Poliglass, Acriglass UV, Topkapi UV, Starwind UV. Recommended enamel topcoats: Acriglass, Whitext, Topkapi or Space Top.
